The Hill : The Hill's Erica Wisniewski caught up with Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) outside a recent Senate hearing where the CEOs of the Big Three U.S. automakers testified. Brown made the case for a bailout of the auto industry; see some of his remarks below.
Erica Wisniewski : If you do bail out the auto industry, how do you prevent any big businesses that have financial trouble from expecting that the government will bail them out?
Sen. Sherrrod Brow : Well I don’t think this sets a precedent. There is no industry quite like the auto industry in terms of the problems it faces, in terms of the jobs it has, in terms of the reach far beyond the auto industry itself, from the economic security of a whole lot of middle class families in Ohio to national security, to our national security in terms of manufacturing.
Sen. Sherrrod Brow : We know what the auto industry has done when we need it to convert to wartime -- there’s no other industry that can do that as quickly or as well.
