Media Bias Toward Obama Inexcusable

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

The liberal media’s now completely blatant bias is as evident as it is extraordinary.  Never before have we seen such an overt, over-the-top, seemingly coordinated effort by press in totality to back the play of a politician.  It is shameless.

That 49% of the American people now say they see the media’s Obama cheerleading leads me only to wonder: What are the other 51% drinking?

No Presidential candidate EVER has received this level of fawning, luminescent and servile coverage.  Not Kerry, not Gore, not Clinton, Dukakis, Mondale, Carter, McGovern, Humphrey, Johnson, not even the liberal media’s hallowed John Fitzgerald Kennedy garnered this level of gushing, glowing press attention.

The liberal media’s only hope of salvaging some semblance of journalistic credibility is, when it’s their turn with Sen. Obama, to put to him the very obvious questions that need to be asked.  However, given their coverage of him thus far, I’m afraid we will find that they will remain incapable of helping themselves, and that their credibility is unrecoverable.

Obama’s European Omission: Our Unbreakable Bond of Belief (Rep. Thaddeus McCotter)

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Accepting President John F. Kennedy’s challenge to “Let them come,” Senator Barack Obama will descend upon Berlin – a Phoenix of Freedom – to lecture the world on the state of the Transatlantic relationship. Such a speech is ironic, for Senator Obama has yet to show any understanding of the fundamental truths that have linked the Transatlantic Alliance through time and tribulations.

As recently practiced by Chancellor Angela Merkel who, defying pressures from the Communist Chinese, chose to meet with the Dalai Lama in her offices, or as expressed by President Ronald Reagan in the shadows of the Brandenburg Gate, Europe and America’s unbreakable bond of belief is this: We understand “the practical importance of liberty…that freedom and security go together, [and] that the advance of human liberty can only strengthen the cause of world peace.” Read the rest of this entry »

Financial Disclosure of Convention Donors Disappointing

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

In the four weeks since CFI’s analysis of private donations to the upcoming national party conventions, the Minneapolis-St. Paul and Denver “host committees” have acknowledged 39 new organizational donors. The full 146 organizational donors to the conventions — nearly all of them business corporations (AARP and the SEIU labor union are significant exceptions) — have spent $1.1 billion to lobby the federal government on legislation and regulations, an average of $7.7 million per company. Amnesty was McCain’s Agenda in Speech to La Raza

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

McCain completed the trifecta of Hispanic events today by speaking to the National Council of La Raza, after having addressed in earlier weeks the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed officials (NALEO) and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).

McCain’s message to all three was the same – that he is the true champion of amnesty for the millions of illegal aliens in the United States, not the pretender Obama. As he told NALEO, “comprehensive immigration reform” (the preferred euphemism for amnesty) “would be my top priority yesterday, today and tomorrow.” Read the rest of this entry »

Obama Must Be Careful in Funding Faith-Based Initiatives (Americans United for the Separation of Church and State)

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

In an ideal world, I would like to see Bush’s “faith based” initiative shut down by whomever becomes our next president. Yet yesterday, one of our presidential candidates, Barack Obama, announced a proposal to expand faith-based funding. I must admit I was disappointed by the news. I hope that if Obama is elected, as a former teacher of constitutional law, he will remember the importance and necessity for separation of church and state. Read the rest of this entry »

Barack Obama and Richard Nixon: The High Price of Political Expediency (Rep. Tom Cole)

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Barack Obama has been compared to many iconic figures in American political history. But last week we saw another aspect of the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee’s character and political style that ought to give every seasoned observer across the political spectrum pause.  Obama’s decision to break his word and opt out of the public financing system and the manner in which he justified that decision were Nixonian to the core.

The facts of the matter are simple enough.  Obama made verbal and written promises to accept public financing in the general election campaign if his Republican opponent would agree to do the same.  John McCain has indicated he will do so, even in the face of Obama’s reversal.  So, in his first consequential decision since becoming his party’s nominee Obama chose to break his word to the American people.  Richard Nixon would understand.  Obama is betting that his liberal allies and the media will too.

It is not just the fact that Obama will now be the first major party presidential nominee since Watergate to opt out of public financing in the general election that should raise eyebrows — though it makes the Richard Nixon comparison even more compelling.  In classic Richard Nixon style Obama chose to blame his reversal on his opponents than accept responsibility for the decision himself. Nixon always had some plausible sounding excuse to one up his opponents, to reverse his positions and to lower his standards.  That excuse was the same one Obama chose to offer in defense of his recent reversal — political expediency. Michigan Will Reject Bush Republicans This Fall (Sen. Debbie Stabenow)

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

I think that Sen. Obama will definitely win Michigan. We’re always a hard-fought, battleground state, but we understand, more than any place else in the country, how disastrous the Bush Republican policies have been for the last eight years. John McCain offers more of the same.

Obama Is Continuing My Uncle’s Mission (Rep. Patrick Kennedy)

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

I’m just absolutely thrilled to be part of this historic time in our nation’s history.  Tomorrow is the 40th anniversary of my uncle Robert Kennedy’s death, but it is also, in a sense, a continuation of his unfinished campaign for a renewal in America, for how we can come together as a society between black and white, between those who have been disenfranchised in our society and those who felt left behind, and those who really haven’t been welcomed into circles of opportunity or into our country.  This is a chance, in this election, for them to finally have a voice and feel like this government belongs to them, too.

People haven’t felt this empowered really, I think, since my uncle Robert Kennedy and Dr. King were giving them a voice in the late ’60s.  It’s ironic that Barack Obama will give his convention night speech on the same day that Martin Luther King delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech.  All of these ironies, I think, are not mere coincidences.  I think there’s something afoot here.  There is something spiritual about him, and you can’t help but feel that when you see the size of the crowds and you feel the spirit in the people.  There really is a great energy, and it’s really exciting to be around.

This Year’s Primary Has Only Made Democrats Stronger (Rep. Bobby L. Rush)

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

On behalf of myself and the residents of the First Congressional District of Illinois, I want to congratulate U. S. Senator Barack Obama on earning enough delegates to secure the Democratic nomination for President of the United States of America.  Americans across this nation have taken a historic step in selecting Sen. Obama to hold the highest elected office in the land.

I am confident that not only is the Democratic Party stronger because of the campaigns of both Sen. Obama and U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton, but I believe, America is stronger.  As we move forward with Sen. Obama’s message of change, I believe we will only continue to get stronger.

Not only do I look forward to running with Sen. Obama on the ballot in November, but I also look forward to working with him on the great issues impacting our communities, in particular, the problems associated with youth and gun violence in our nation.

It’s Time for Democrats to Unite to Support Obama (Rep. John Larson)

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Americans across the country have made an historic decision to elect Senator Barack Obama as our Democratic candidate for President. I said it in January, and it is even truer today, Senator Obama has a remarkable ability to inspire generations and unite people towards our nation’s common good. I am proud to call him my nominee for President. And, I am thrilled to continue to support him in this next phase of his journey to the White House. I know that he will restore honesty and integrity to the presidency, and offer Americans a leader they can believe in.

I also commend Senator Hillary Clinton for her diligence and passion in this campaign. Her candidacy showed women around the world that they can aspire to any goal. She is a wonderful public servant and the American people are lucky to have Senator Clinton working on their behalf.

Now, it is time for our party and our country to come together in support of Senator Obama. We must heal the wounds of this campaign and do what is best for our nation’s future. We are the party of change, the party of ideas. With Barack Obama as our leader, I am confident that we can put an end to the policies of yesterday – the policies that have diminished our standing on the world’s stage, damaged our environment, and spoiled our economy. Today, we begin to work towards a new, better reality for the American people. One where the American dream really means something to our children and our word means something to our allies around the world. As Senator Obama said last night, “this is our time.”
