Momentum Shift Pushes Tipping Point in FL-25 (Fla. Dem. Cand. Joe Garcia)
October 14th, 2008
As Election Day approaches, it is clear that the momentum across the country belongs to the Democrats. Nowhere is this more apparent than in South Florida, where my campaign continues to gain traction in our battle for Florida’s 25th Congressional District against GOP incumbent and Bush faithful, Mario Diaz-Balart.
After being endorsed by the Kendall Federation of Homeowner Associations, an influential organization that had endorsed my opponent in the past, we received yet another poll that shows the race statistically tied. Two prior polls also had us within five percentage points of my opponent, whose job and personal opinion ratings are either at or below 50%. And today, the reputable Rothenberg Political Report acknowledged this sea change by upgrading our race from “Lean Republican” to “Toss Up.”
This is all good news, but I’m not letting up. With an aggressive media strategy and an equally expansive field program, I am confident that we will gain the few points needed to break the GOP stronghold that has existed in South Florida for far too long.
