Our Message of Change is Resonating (Ohio Dem. Can. Mary Jo Kilroy)

October 8th, 2008

As I campaign all over Central Ohio it is becoming clear that our message of change is resonating with our community. The past few weeks has been an exceptionally trying time for our country and right here in Central Ohio it has served as a reminder that Washington is broken and we need to elect Representatives who are free of banking lobby interests.

The next Congress will have to weigh in on some of the most important issues our country has faced in generations. We need to work together, both Democrats and Republicans, to rebuild the regulatory environment that banking lobbyists fought to dismantle over the last decade. We must go after CEO’s who allowed greed to cloud their vision and violated the trust of main street investors who were only trying to save, and live comfortably in their golden years. We must also calm our financial markets and let them know that the credit needed to continue growing our businesses and invest in our futures will be available to them.

The crisis in our financial markets is merely one more stress on our country, which already faces an energy crisis. We certainly need to drill, but we also need innovation and conservation in order to break our dependence on foreign oil. We need to close the so-called “Enron Loophole,” because speculation in the oil markets has contributed to the unstable energy prices that Central Ohio families are struggling to deal with every single day.

Finally, we must make sure that healthcare is affordable and accessible for all Americans. With 46 million uninsured Americans who lack access to basic preventative care, we are costing our nation billions treating illnesses that can be stopped. Further, we must have every single American healthy, and ready to compete in the global marketplace. Over the next four weeks I plan to continue to bring my message of change to voters in Central Ohio, because it’s time to put aside our differences and work hard to fix these problems today.
