Americans Want Answers About the War on Terror
October 7th, 2008
Less than a month until voting, halfway through the debates, and we still await specific answers from the presidential candidates about global security. Military families, Iraq and Afghanistan vets, the American Legion, and other national security leaders are calling on Tom Brokaw and the candidates to make sure fundamental questions about the war on terror are addressed at tonight’s debate. Ten questions at the very heart of security leadership. Here are three critical ones:
* Under your administration, what would an American-Iraqi partnership look like? What is your vision for the future of Iraq? Can we win? Are we winning? Must we win?
* Has that the “Surge” achieved its stated goals – militarily and politically - and is the reason for stabilization in Iraq? And, knowing what you know now, would you again support or oppose General Petraeus’ counterinsurgency strategy?
* Are we engaged in a global war on terrorism? And do you believe that radical Islam is our generation’s transcendent challenge?
Where do the candidates stand on these and similar critical questions? Americans needs to know, and we need to know now. Let’s hope they get asked and are a part of this important debate tonight.
