I think it’s a sad day for our country, where members of the administration are afraid to appear before a Congressional Committee for Oversight. This is an Oversight hearing, this is to have an assessment of where we are in regards to environmental legislation and they’re afraid to appear– that’s just offensive, it’s wrong, and it’s just a sad day for our country.

The record has been clear the Environmental Protection Agency has withheld scientific information from the public that should have been made public. They have not followed their professional scientific information and so it’s part of a track record which is very, very disturbing.

We’re in the last days of this administration I think we just need to turn the chapter and hopefully in the next administration these type of offensive actions will not take place. The new administration first, will have a better record on the environment. Secondly, we will have an administration that wants and respects the independence of the Congress, our responsibility to be a check and balance and our responsibility to have oversight hearings.

In addition, the new administration should cooperate and make the witnesses available and the records available so that the American people have the same benefits as the different branches of government.
