‘Can We Drill Your Brains?’ (Ala. GOP Candidate Wayne Parker)

August 28th, 2008

It was with this kind of disdain that Nancy Pelosi replied to demonstrators when they interrupted a press conference this week, chanting “Drill Here! Drill Now!”  That would be the same disregard she and the Democrat leadership showed for the average American when they flipped off the lights in Congress to take a five week recess.   Rather than deal with the energy crisis that brought us $4.00-a-gallon gas, Mrs. Pelosi went on tour to promote her book and host congressional fundraisers for her next batch of prospective followers, including my opponent.

This week she’s trading taunts with protesters.  After retorting with, “Can we drill your brains?” she proceeded to call members of the group “handmaidens of Big Oil.”  Perhaps she would say the same about 67% of voters who favor offshore drilling, according to a recent Rasmussen poll.

This is just one example of Pelosi’s statements which show a complete disconnect between her priorities and those of the congressional district I seek to serve (AL-05).  I signed The Pledge to Take a Stand for North Alabama because the people of the Fifth District cannot afford one more vote for high energy prices and a do-nothing Congress. They can’t afford another vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.

Energy independence is a key step to ensuring our economic and national security.  We cannot continue to rely on foreign nations for our energy supply.  I support a comprehensive energy plan which allows for drilling offshore, in ANWR, and in areas such as the Bakken Formation of Montana and North Dakota.  I also believe this district can play a crucial role in expanding nuclear energy production, through TVA facilities.  One vote was all the House needed to stay in session to give the American people a working energy plan.  When elected, my vote will represent the needs of Alabama’s 5th District, and it will make a difference.
