Republican Floor Protests Speak for American Public (Rep. Wally Herger)
August 4th, 2008
When we have the Speaker of the House saying she is refusing to have a vote on probably the most important issue before the American public today — we know we have a tough battle here. But I believe that the fact that we’re here, that Members are here speaking, though it’s to the public, matters a great deal. We hear the applause out here; people are concerned about the fact that we’re not having a vote. I believe it’s only a matter of time until even Speaker Pelosi will be forced to allow an up or down vote. That’s what a democracy is all about. And particularly when we see the Senate is moving forward with a compromise, the Democrats’ candidate, Mr. Obama, is indicating that he’s willing to look for a compromise, it stands out that the only person in America who’s not ready for a vote or a compromise seems to be Speaker Pelosi.
I don’t know how our efforts can help but be successful, because the American public is demanding it. And we’re merely a voice for the American public here today, and we will continue to be.
