Homeland Security Transition Must Be a Smooth One (Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee)

July 17th, 2008

This is one of the more strategically important hearings that we’ve had in this Congress, because Homeland Security cannot subject itself to transition.  We cannot be caught in transition in securing America.  So many of us will be asking questions about how we’re going to be consistent in continuing to secure America during the transition between administrations.  Some of us will be very concerned about the ongoing problems with watch lists, with many Americans on them who are innocent.  What about CNN’s Drew Griffin?  How did he get on the watch list once he started investigating the department of Homeland Security?  We’ll be asking a lot of questions of substance and procedure because the American people expect to be secure in spite of Presidential politics.
