House Oversight Will Not Accept Mukasey’s Answer (Rep. Henry Waxman)
July 16th, 2008
I was amazed at the letter from Attorney General Mukasey asserting that our subpoena request as a broad under executive privilege, I just find that a ridiculous assertion. But rather than go to a vote on contempt, I thought we ought to step back, have a look at his arguments, evaluate them, and talk to Ranking Member Tom Davis and other members of the committee to decide what our next step will be. We are not going to end it today. We are going to move forward. We are not going to accept this answer that he has given to us and we will have to decide what our next step will be. I expect to make that decision soon.
