Contempt Votes Are Like Beating a Dead Horse (Rep. Virginia Foxx)

July 16th, 2008

I actually walked out of today’s meeting when I came in and heard Chairman Waxman, because I am so frustrated by this emphasis on holding members of the administration in contempt through this committee. I came into the meeting in a really good mood, and I did not want to have to listen to the comments.

It is frustrating because this committee has the potential to do a lot of good things, and we are wasting our time on attempting to hold members of the administration in contempt. He started out by making false statements about Valerie Plame. It has been clearly stated that Scooter Libby did not reveal who Valerie Plame was. They have documented it, I think, in every committee in Congress. So I see no reason to plow over that ground again.

Let’s take this committee, try to save money, try to make the federal government work better, try to serve constituents instead of wasting our time constantly on these issues. The Bush administration is going to be gone really soon, it just seems like it is beating a dead horse.
