Initial Round of Questioning with John Yoo and David Addington Seemed Fruitless (Rep. Keith Ellison)
June 26th, 2008
It seems like they (Professor John Yoo and David Addington) don’t want to cooperate. They’re bound and determined not to answer any questions, but I think the committee is committed to getting answers. I think if we get a second round, I’m going to drill down and keep on asking those questions. Yoo didn’t want to respond. I asked him about implementation, and he said he didn’t know what that meant. That is one of the clearest cases of ‘I don’t want to answer any questions’ that I’ve ever seen. What do they have to hide? If they haven’t done anything wrong, talk about it. Again, I think Mr. Conyers was very clear, nobody here is going to ‘get them.’ The Committee is trying to get some answers, but when they start obfuscating like that, you wonder why they wouldn’t be more forthcoming and candid.
