The Capitol More Brilliant Thanks to Brumidi (Rep. Gary Ackerman)
June 11th, 2008
It was an honor to help spearhead efforts that led to the passage of this important piece of legislation. Constantino Brumidi was a great son of Italy and a great American. His achievements are a tremendous source of pride for Italian-Americans, and this bill bestows upon him, and the Italian-American community, the recognition that the artist’s extraordinary contributions so rightly deserve. All of us who have the privilege of working in the Capitol, as well as the millions of visitors that tour the building each year, have always admired the brilliant works of Constantino Brumidi. Now, thanks to the passage of this legislation, those who come here will finally learn the fascinating story of how an immigrant from Italy became the Artist of the Capitol and a source of great American pride.
