Increase in Domestic Energy Supply is Necessary (Rep. John Shadegg)
June 11th, 2008
At least a number of the witnesses said the remedies that both sides are talking about are not mutually exclusive. Obviously, conserving our current energy supply is extremely important. But at the same time, increasing supply, particularly domestic supply, is also important. There was great testimony on both of those issues, particularly in testimony about the places where we could look for domestic supply in our own Intercontinental Shelf or for oil shale. I thought that the argument from the panel was quit arguing amongst yourselves and do both. I think that’s the answer. I certainly believe that we have to be doing both, but unfortunately I think we’re only doing one right now. Let’s put politics aside and get at this problem.
