Advice on Picking a Vice President (Sen. John Kerry)

I think it’s important for any person picking a Vice President to pick someone who’s prepared to be president. You have to have somebody who can help you in terms of campaigning — someone who will be there when the going is tough, as it will be in a campaign — and someone who will be exceedingly loyal. Along with a capacity to govern, these factors are very, very important ingredients. But obviously, in a dangerous world with a lot of difficult security issues and things, it’s important to have people who are prepared to be president.
