MLB Hearing Was Like A Pay-Per-View Showdown (Rep. Lynn Westmoreland)

February 14th, 2008

I agree with Chairman Waxman that the Government Reform and Oversight Committee has the right to look into steroids in baseball because we have jurisdiction over the nation’s drug policy. But as a committee we are not a court of law set up to determine guilt or innocence. We should be looking – if at anything – at the widespread use of steroids in major league sports, not on the alleged use by certain individuals. Instead of a forum to create better policy, the hearing seemed more like a pay-per-view showdown.
