Republicans Are Falling Behind Dems on Health Care

December 8th, 2007

Fixing our health care crisis isn’t a Republican or a Democratic issue—it’s an issue that affects every family in America. Poll after poll shows that voters want to know how our next president plans to ensure affordable health care for every man, woman, and child in our country.

That’s why it’s so shocking that the Republicans keep ignoring, misleading, and changing their tune on such an important issue.

Health care voters and SEIU members have been on the ground in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina earlier than ever this election to ask all candidates where they stand on health care.

Nearly all of the Democrats responded, offering plans that cover all of our families. Unfortunately, Republican plans fall far short. Americans for Health Care is releasing a detailed health care comparison next week where you can see where candidates stand on health care.

Even more disappointing, Governor Romney continues to change his tune on the issue. While he often talks about his record of bringing health care to families in Massachusetts, he has no plan for the rest of us. And as we move closer to primary day in New Hampshire, he’s given health care voters a cold shoulder.

In recent months, he’s refused to wear “I’m a Health Care Voter stickers and his staff even tried removing health care voters from an event on the steps of the New Hampshire State Library. Photos show Romney wearing the stickers and engaging in conversation with health care voters earlier this year.

The last thing voters want is candidates playing politics with an issue so important to our families. Health care voters and SEIU members will continue to push for answers until every candidate offers a real solution.
