ACLU: Press Shield Bill Faces Uphill Battle

Dr. James Thomas Tucker, Policy Counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), says the Bush administration does not want federal judges in charge of issuing subpoenas to reporters.

According to Tucker, the U.S. Attorney General currently makes those decisions, and Rep. Rick Boucher’s (D-Va.) media shield bill, which seeks to change the current system, will encounter resistance in the Senate.
