Bush Launches Charm Offensive
February 3rd, 2007
Speaking to House Democrats in Williamsburg, Va., Saturday morning, President Bush was charming, funny, pointed and testy. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was pointed and testy while speaking to reporters afterward.
Asked whether she thought Bush indicated any change in his Iraq policy, Pelosi shot back, “If the President wanted us to characterize his remarks, his [answers to questions from lawmakers] would have been open to the press.
“He stood his ground, she said.
Asked if she was disappointed by Bush’s position, Pelosi said that disappointment was attached to expectation and having met with Bush several days ago about her visit to Iraq she was sure about what to expect.
Perhaps we reporters should not be surprised that Pelosi employed her “mother of five voice because her daughter Alexandra, son-in-law, their newborn son, Paul, her husband, and Paul Jr., her son, were milling around during her remarks.
Below is a picture of Bush and Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) at the retreat.
